The gaming industry has introduced a huge area of play zone for gamers. Different effects, functions, and abilities are added in different games to create unique and enjoyable modes. Such unique modes allow to grasp the attention of the gamers more and pull them towards the gaming industry.
Now, while shedding light on what actually aether currents are; so, it is the ability provided in different gaming zones to produce the flying effect during the state of the mount, which itself offers in the particular zone this ability can be allowed to use. Heavensward (3.0) is the first expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and was released on June 23, 2015, whereas, stormblood (4.0) is the second expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and was released on June 20, 2017, having 15 aether currents, all these zones were released in these two expansions.
How to Attune of Aether Currents?:
It is necessary for gamers must be attuned with 15 aether currents to get the ability of flying in the zone. These aether currents are also scattered in the whole zone and can also be rewarded after completing Main Scenario Quests and Side Quests. While playing the game, aether currents can be shown in the greenish color in the game field, and the player has to attune all those aether currents by the right click on them. The particular window of aether currents shows the whole process of attuning those aether currents. After completing those aether currents, there is the option to unlock flight over the mounts.
Unlocking the ability:
After completing quests and attuning 15 aether currents, the unlocking option of flying ability is accessed, and then the flight mode can be enjoyed. Main Scenario Quests and Divine Intervention are the quests necessary to complete the unlocking process, and then they also led to the unlocking of aether compass.

Aether Compass:
Aether compass is used to find the presence of the aether currents in the zone. It is considered as the necessary item because of locating and collecting the aether currents. There is another physibility that if a gamer loses aether compass, it will be replaced by another gadget that can be obtained in Forgotten Knight in Foundation at Gibrillont or at Gaufrid in Rhalgar’s Reach in The Fringes.
Just like in the Heavensward expansion where flying was first introduced, one can only fly in a given region by getting all aether currents in said area first. Each map has a total of fifteen aether currents- ten of those you can just pick up along the fields, and five of them you can only get by completing certain quests.
You can unlock flying in The Ruby Sea at level 63, Yanxia at 64, the Azim Steppe at 66 and the rest at later levels. That said, it seems it would be smarter to just finish the Main Scenario first and get to level 70 before unlocking flying in any of the maps. You won’t be needing to fly anyway early on in the game- it’s only mostly for convenience when doing the various end-game stuff.
Without further ado, here are the locations of all aether currents in Stormblood!
*Note: Quests with aether current rewards are ALWAYS marked with a blue sign so they’re easy to spot.
